Welcome site map
Cambridge has a wide selection of bars and restaurants and we make it our sole purpose in life to be kicked out of as many of them as possible, so you don't have to!
Some places have almost become official venues of the Diamonds, while many restaurants and eateries have been visited by the dining club. For the remainder, you will need to rely on the reports of our interepid agents, especially for places further afield.
Please contact us at
with new reviews or queries, or post them on the tgcambs group.
The following venues are regularly visited by the Cambridge Diamonds transgender support group.
| Moored on Chesterton Road, Cambridge, CB4 3AX
Tel: (01223) 307694 |
Captain Tarquin welcomes us aboard every Wednesday evening from 8pm until late, but please try to be prompt, as late arrivals (after 10pm) may be disappointed to find the boat has sailed! The riverboat is, of course, also available to hire for all your special occasions, and has walk-on fares.
The comfortable, well heated boat is easily accessible from the Boathouse pub car park, which our members are permitted to use.
While the riverboat has a spacious feeling, it is properly enclosed and comes complete with a licenced bar, central heating, and proper toilet facilities, including an ample disabled facility which can double as a changing room.
Note that this venue has been generously provided free and so no fees need to be charged to members. However this does mean that if the boat is chartered for that evening, or otherwise unavailable, the group will instead need to use the ample booking office/function room instead.
The search for a "sensible" Winter venue continues. Please email
or join the tgcamb Yahoo group to keep up-to-date with the progress, and to be forewarned if the boat itself is not available on the night.
| 73 Humberstone Road, Cambridge, CB4 1JD
Tel: (01223) 356095 |
The Fleur de Lys team generously stepped into the breach while the Bird in Hand public house was awaiting a new landlord and a paint job... but unfortunately it, too, has now closed its doors!
The Fleur de Lys is primarily a Bar and Bistro and the food is quite excellent and fairly priced, and while the front bar has been made available to us for our Wednesday evening meet-ups it would be polite for us not to scare off their regulars.
While the building faces onto Elisabeth Way, access to the ample carpark on Humberston Road is via De Freville Avenue, off Chesterton Road.
Changing facilities are not currently available, unfortunately, but if you contact Gem directly, I'm sure an arrangement can be made.

The CornerHouse has reopened as a live music venue, with bands booked Weds, Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights and is no longer a mainstream venue for the regular Diamonds Wednesday meeting.
This is a pity as the bar staff are generally friendly and welcoming.

The Bird in Hand has reopened, and aside from a lick of paint is as welcoming as ever. Unfortunately, they now do Karaoke on Wednesday night, and are unable to host the group regular meeting.
The Bird in Hand public house is open to all expressions of gender and sexuality, and since the refit in Feb 2010, the Bird looks set to only get better. The small size and high popularity of this location can make it difficult for the less confident T-Girl, but rest assured you are bound to bump in to someone.
Changing facilities are currently limited to a generous disabled stall in the ladies loo, but promises are that this will be improved.
9 Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8EG.
Generally a good experience. The Home-made steak-and-ale pie might actually have been made in house, but I doubt it!
71 Grafton Centre Cambridge, CB1 1PS
Quiet restaurant atmosphere with friendly waiter service. Surprisingly limited menu.
22 Jesus Lane, Cambridge CB5 8BQ
This Cafe is a space for encounters, meetings and discovery.
It is a social utility and a community resource.
It is not commercial. It is non-alcoholic.
It is open to everyone and will welcome all, regardless of religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, skin colour, hair colour, disability (although wheelchair users will need assistance getting up the front door step - afraid there's nothing we can do about that).
It is run by volunteers, and not for profit.
It is non-heierarchical, and run by users and volunteers. Everyone can come to our general meetings, make suggestions, and be involved in the decision making process.
Every Friday
Every Friday from Friday 20th June, the cafe will be run by Naarii, a Cambridge based charitable organisation.
From 10am - 11pm every Friday, the cafe will be transformed, delighting your senses with music, spices, and fabrics..
The Cafe Project is always LGBTS friendly but fridays will be emphasising this with all money raised being donated to the Lesbian Association of India, www.l-a-i.org, So, EVERYONE is welcome to join us for a relaxing or uplifting drink, to chat or to chill!

Although you may not bump into many other transgendered clubbers, it's a gender-friendly evening where you should be able to enjoy yourself without hassle.

The box tree is no more, and is now a chineese restaurant. Perhaps we will try them again.
